Getting to Context-03 at Stanford:

Flying from Abroad

International flyers will most likely arrive at San Francisco Airport (SFO). Travelers should be warned that public transportation in America is quite primitive. It is possible but not easy to get from the local airports to your accommodations at Stanford. See the information below.

To simplify things, we are offering a shuttle service Sunday afternoon from SFO, during the times when we think attendees are most likely to arrive. We will pick conference attendees at the International Terminal at SFO on Sunday, June 22nd at 2 p. m. , 4 p. m. , 6 p. m. , 8 p. m. and 10 p. m. The driver, who will have a bright red t-shirt that says "Stanford" on it, will be standing by the car in front of the terminal. If you email us your itinerary, we'll reserve a place for you.

Driving

From Hwy 101: Take the Embarcadero Road West Exit. After crossing El Camino, you will enter the campus on Galvez.

For Mirrielees Apartments (Conference Residence): Drive past the stadium to Campus Drive where there is a 4 way stop. Turn left. Proceed to the corner of Campus Drive and Escondido Road. Turn left on Escondido. Mirrielees Apartments are now to your right.

For CSLI (Conference Headquarters): Drive past the stadium to Campus Drive where there is a 4 way stop. Turn right. Proceed to Campus Drive and Panama and turn left. CSLI is in two buildings on the corner, to your right just after you turn.

From Hwy 280: Take the Alpine Road exit. From the north, turn left on Alpine. From the south, turn right on Alpine. Make a right onto Junipero Serra Blvd at the first traffic light. Turn left at the next traffic light onto Campus Drive West.

For CSLI proceed to corner of Panama and Campus Drive, which will be less than a mile.

For Mirrielees Apartments, continue on Campus Drive to the intersection of Escondido. Turn left on Escondido. Mirrielees Apartments are now to your right.

Parking at CSLI: 1) Behind CSLI (expensive, limited space) turn right on driveway just past CSLI buildings; 2) The lot across Panama Street from CSLI (less expensive, more space), turn left into lot just after CSLI; 3) At Parking Meters in the Parking Building about one hundred yards past CSLI to the left.

If you do not use the parking meters, buy a temporary parking permit immediately from Conference staff and take it back to your car.

From SFO only: $26. 00 ($8. 00/each additional person) one-way. Pick-up is on upper level by US Air, United, and International terminal. Runs 24 hours a day. Reservation required on return trip to the airport. (3 stop max per shuttle trip).

COUNTY BUS SERVICE

Sam Trans Bus

From SFO only: $1. 25 one-way. Pick-up locations on lower (arrival) level on center island at Terminal 2, curbside at Terminal 3, and International Terminal. Take Bus #KX to Stanford Shopping Center; then take Marguerite shuttle Line A (free) to campus; (Marguerite runs Monday - Friday only from 6 AM �� 8 PM). Bus leaves airport every 30 minutes and takes approximately 55 min.

Santa Clara County Transit

From SJC only: $4. 00 day pass, $1. 40 each trip. No transfers are issued. Take bus #10 to Santa Clara Train Station, and then take Bus #22 to the Palo Alto train station. Free Marguerite Shuttle from University Avenue Station to Stanford during commuter hours, Monday - Friday only. Buses run approximately every 30 minutes.

From SFO: $3. 75 Millbrae Station to University Ave Station in Palo Alto. Take the SFO-Cal Train Shuttle from SFO to Millbrae Station.

From SJC: $2. 25 Santa Clara Station to University Ave Station in Palo Alto. Take bus #10 from SJC to Santa Clara Station.

Free Marguerite Shuttle from University Avenue Station to Stanford during commuter hours, Monday - Friday only.

Train hours: Weekdays 5:25 AM to 12:20 PM; no weekend service.
