How to block Flash selectively

If you want to block annoying Macromedia Flash ads, you have several options. My solution is to run two browsers: a configuration of Firefox that blocks Flash and a second browser (Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari or a second profile of Firefox) that displays Flash.

I use Firefox as my default internet browser and don't have to endure any Flash ads most days. When I come across a site that requires Flash, I switch to the second browser.

Here is how to block all Flash in Firefox.

Obviously you have to install Firefox if you haven't done so yet. It's highly recommended.
Quit Firefox
Locate the chrome subfolder of the profile folder of your Firefox installation. The profile folder ends with "default" and has some random characters prepended. For example, this is the path of the chrome folder on my powerbook:

/Users/henrik/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/5f06xnf4.default/chrome
```
On Windows it will look something like this:
```
C:\Documents and Settings\henrik\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5f06xnf4.default\chrome
```
Downlaod the file userContent.css and save it in the chrome folder.
Restart Firefox and go to a site with annoying Flash ads. All of them should now be blocked.
I also block images to avoid all non-text ads, but you may not want to go that far.
