"Neurological origins of language learning impairment and dyslexia" Mike Merzenich Studies conducted primarily over the past decade have revealed the likely neurological origins of the most common forms of language learning impairments, and of the most common forms of reading impairments. That understanding has led to new treatment strategies for their amelioration. The application of those strategies has now been demonstrated to result in a substantial re-normalization, documented both behaviorally and by fMRI and MSI recording, in language impaired and dyslexic children. Closely related studies also provide new insights into the origins of -- and the potentially more effective treatment of -- the more severe language deficits recorded in pervasively developmentally disordered children.
