Submitting Papers vs. Abstracts

The Nineteenth Annual Conference of the Cognitive Science Society allows two types of submission: six-page papers and one-page abstracts. Papers will undergo a peer review process like that typically associated with artificial intelligence meetings; in contrast, abstracts will only be checked by the organizing commitee to ensure they meet formatting guidelines and have some relevance to the conference.

Full papers must reach us no later than Tuesday, February 4, 1997, so there will be time for review and revision before the final, camera-ready copies are due April 29. Abstracts can reach us as late as Tuesday, March 4, 1997, since they will require considerably less work.

Authors of accepted six-page papers will get a 20-minute slot at the conference to present a formal talk on their work. Authors of one-page abstracts can present a (single) poster on their results during an evening poster session, though we may also offer some the chance to give formal talks.

In other words, abstract authors are guaranteed one page in the proceedings and a poster slot, but on one condition: the presenters must be members of the Cognitive Science Society or they must join when the send in their final, camera-ready copy.
